Psychiatry and Medication Support

Emotional and psychological treatment can sometimes be a complex process. In certain cases, incorporating medication may help reduce anxiety, distress, and obsessive thoughts, provide a sense of relief, and make it easier to engage in the therapeutic process.

How Does It Work at Our Clinic?

The therapists at our clinic do not provide direct psychiatric consultations.

To ensure comprehensive and safe care, the clinic works closely with two leading psychiatrists who practice independently outside the clinic.

When necessary, we refer patients to them for evaluation and consultation while maintaining continuity of care, professional communication, and coordination between the patient’s therapist and consulting psychiatrist.

A Few Reassuring Words About Medication

Many patients are concerned about medication because of stigma, uncertainty, or worries about possible side effects. We believe it is important to provide clear information and help reduce these concerns.

A Supportive Tool in the Treatment Process

Medication is not a magic solution, nor is it intended to change your personality or suppress your emotions. Its purpose is to reduce severe anxiety, distress, or obsessive thoughts, allowing you to regain strength and progress in therapy.

These Medications Are Not Considered Addictive

SSRIs, which are commonly used to treat anxiety and OCD, are not considered addictive in the conventional sense. However, they should not be stopped abruptly. Any reduction in dosage should be gradual and supervised by a psychiatrist to minimize possible discontinuation symptoms.

The Decision Always Remains Yours

Seeking psychiatric advice does not obligate you to begin taking medication. The decision is made together with the psychiatrist after reviewing the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives, while respecting your individual needs and pace.

Gradual Adjustment and Ongoing Monitoring

The medication and dosage are adjusted carefully under medical supervision. Side effects vary from person to person and may improve over time. If they occur or become troubling, the psychiatrist can assess whether to adjust the dosage, manage the side effects, or consider a different medication.

Combining Therapy with Medication

CBT combined with ERP is considered a central treatment approach for OCD. Depending on the severity of the symptoms and each person’s individual needs, it may be combined with appropriately prescribed medication.

For some patients, this combination can help reduce distress, support therapeutic progress, and improve daily functioning and quality of life.
